One Ohio Town Is Welcoming Medical Marijuana Businesses with Open Arms

OH Medical Marijuana

The town of Johnstown Village in Ohio is welcoming marijuana businesses with open arms. Several communities in Ohio have already banned medical marijuana businesses, but Johnstown Village openly invites those business owners to relocate to their quaint little town.

A resolution was recently passed stating that the town won’t stand in the way of anyone wanting to legally operate a state-licensed medical marijuana business within town limits, Cleveland.com reported. In Ohio, individual cities and townships can vote to allow or deny medical marijuana businesses from operating within their city limits.

Johnstown is home to Apeks Supercritical, a company that produces extraction systems for producing marijuana oils. The business was initially intended for extracting flavors from foods for use in other products. Marijuana businesses began purchasing the products and Apeks Supercritical caught on. They’ve expanded their business from a barn to a 17,000 sq. ft. commercial building.

The Johnstown Business Park is where Apeks Supercritical is situated now. Owner, Andy Joseph says that he wishes to turn that business park into a medical marijuana industry hub. This hub would open up local job opportunities and boost the local economy.

Johnstown Mayor Sean Staneart said, “If it wasn’t for that specific component, that we had a specific tie – I don’t think we’d be in this situation where we would be passing anything.”

So far, there is little opposition to the medical marijuana industry operating in Johnstown, in fact, it is quite the opposite. Several local lawmakers see it as helping the local economy, although it will come with additional costs for increased security.

Lawmakers have educated themselves and understand the medical benefits of marijuana. Mayor Staneart was leery about medical marijuana himself. He said, “I was hesitant about medical marijuana but being educated by these individuals changed a lot of the viewpoints I previously had.”

Town Manager Jim Lenner said, “We were lucky enough to have Andy. We didn’t seek this out. It sought us out and it’s been a good fit.”

The town is looking forward to growing the medical marijuana industry in Ohio, and specifically, for the local economy to pick up in the near future with the welcoming of these businesses to their town.
